V0.9.0 - Big update! Almost done with the game!


Hey Splashy Friends!

This update adds a ton of stuff, jumping from v0.3.0 to v0.9.0!

There are now 9 stages/levels to play through, save data, and multiple level select modes!

  • Save data present, keeping track of best stage attempts and unlocked levels between play sessions
    • Can be reset in the settings menu
  • Story mode is meant for players that want to unlock levels in the intended order
  • Free play is meant for players that want to try out any level that has been implemented so far (level 10 is the only unavailable level now)
  • Added levels 4-9
  • Levels 5, 6, 7, and 9 have relatively normal cargo, just different types and amounts to see how different combinations can be challenging
  • Level 4 introduces livestock which are damaged like other cargo, but also decay over time. They can be "healed" by interacting with them to feed them cabbages!
  • Level 8 introduces the Siren, which sings to audience members and drains their morale to improve her condition
    • If being damaged, will scream, applying a significant negative morale mod to all crew
    • Condition also decays over time like livestock

The game definitely needs some playtesting so that mechanics and such can be tweaked and balanced. That playtesting will be taking place while the final level is being developed, but a primary thoughts at this point is:

  • The larger boats/crew sizes (16-20 crew members) feel unmanageable in a not-fun way
    • This might be resolved by changing what causes morale to decrease, allowing crew to more passively row. Making morale/crew easier to manage might mean the number/effect of obstacles (leaks, puddles, pirates, etc) could be changed to balance that. Nothing set in stone at this point, mainly thinking publicly in this note.
